No Stamps Required

No stamps required as of January 1, 2015

There will be no stamps required from January 1, 2015, as the stamps shall be cancelled. From July 1, 2014 the stamps used for the payment of court and administrative fees shall be cancelled and not be issued any more. However, the stamps issued before July 1, 2014 can be used until the end of December 2014 or can be returned to the Slovak Post Office.

Regardless the long-year tradition in the use of stamps for the issuance of various documents and deeds by the public authorities, at present this form of payment of fees is losing its genuine reason. According to the legislator the very existence of the stamps gives the space for their falsification and misuse, so their subsequent protection by new technologies increases their production costs. Also the reduction of selling points to a selected group of sellers does not support the required simplicity and economic efficiency of the proceedings held before the public authorities. Modern society therefore needs new forms of payment that are generally accessible and save the time and administration.

After the cancellation of stamps it shall be possible to pay the fees in cash, by credit card, by remittance payment or by wireless transfer via bank account. Other options how to pay the fees shall be the payment by sending a short text message (SMS) or via Internet; however, these ways of payment will depend on the technical equipment of the competent authorities.

The abovementioned changes should contribute to the simplification of payment of various fees when dealing with the public authorities.
